Help Others — 29%
Make Money — 14%
Be Famous — 11%

Ever wonder what stops you from achieving what you want?  Start by being aware of your self-imposed barriers. Become aware of your thoughts, behaviors and habits, especially the ones that are hurting you. Do you perceive things negatively?

Do you procrastinate, overeat, overreact, avoid conflicts? Are you disorganized?

You can overcome self-sabotage by first being aware of how you sabotage yourself.  You will see amazing results once you decide to accept and change these self-imposed barriers. The choice is yours!

Yes, the choice is yours to have options to remain motivated; to remain calm when you start to lose your temper; to stay effective when you are upset; and productive when you feel overwhelmed.

So what does it take to be motivated and overcome self-sabotage? It takes courage and self-discipline. Yes indeed, it takes courage and self-discipline to say No! to the thoughts, behaviors and habits that are hurting you and getting in the way of getting what you want.

It takes thinking solutions and not problems.

You can improve your relationship with yourself and others.  Overcoming self-sabotage is your chance to develop the motivation and the self-esteem that you and others respond to and respect.

Opus VI – Paying Attention to Your Intuition : Creativity is a learned skill

March 31, 2008 by whatmakesyourheartsing

Pay attention to your enthusiasm, your intuition is talking
to you.

You receive your intuitive information through your feelings,
and your thoughts.

Spend time thinking about what you want.

Trust yourself and your intuition by asking your intuition
questions.

Remember that developing your intuition – like creativity – is
a learned skill.

The secret to paying attention to your intuition is to be bold,
to think big and to pay attention to your enthusiasm.

Paying attention to your intuition takes time — time to listen
and learn to trust yourself.

Like your creativity, your intuition is a learned skill that may
cause you some distress.

Here are some questions that when answered may give you
some direction.

Do you trust yourself?

Is your life all that you want it to be?

Is your life your number one priority?

To take paying attention to your creativity, your intuition to
the next level you must choose to…

…get out of your comfort zone.
…invest in yourself.
…make a difference.
…take yourself seriously.
…use a proactive approach and ask “what is my purpose in life?”

By being open to and trusting your intuition and your creativity
you are able to change your life into one that is extraordinary.

[This addition posted on December 25, 2008]

Intuition is being used here as spirituality, and spirituality is
defined as “the quality or state of being spiritual” and is being
used in this book as a “connection to something ‘greater’ than
oneself.” [Source : Wikipedia.com]

Are you a spiritual, intuitive, creative being in physical form
or are you a physical being searching for your spirituality,
your intuition, your creativity?

You are all of the above. You are spiritual, intuitive, creative
and physical.

Your aspirations are spiritual, intuitive and creative; your safety
and comfort are physical.

Your spiritual aspiration, your intuitive aspiration, your creative
aspiration is to grow; and your physical aspiration is to keep
things as they are.

Knowing what you want to achieve plays a critical part in
achieving either aspirations.

Here are some ideas to consider…

Your spirituality, your intuition, your creativity are aesthetic
concepts, not religious ones.

Your spirituality, your intuition, your creativity is rooted
in universal human awareness.

Religion has rituals, spirituality, intuition, creativity does not.

Your spirituality, your intuition, your creativity come to you
in different ways at different times.

According to Deepak Chopra, M.D., when you stay in the
present moment without fear and judgment you let go of
your self-image, and experience your spirituality, your
higher self.

You experience your higher self, your intuition, your creativity
in situations when you feel a level of contentment and peace.

You experience your higher self, your intuition, your creativity
in all of your activities when you are mindful of and know
your perception of the work, your belief system and your
attitude.

Bottom line…

Get out of your comfort zone by focusing on what really
matters to you while asking yourself these questions…

What do I want to achieve and reach?

What thoughts do I have about myself and my ability to
achieve and reach what I want?

What feelings do I have about myself that may influence
my ability to achieve and reach what I want?

Do I really want to achieve and reach what I want?

At the end of the day, your intuition makes your heart sing.

[This addition posted on September 1, 2009]

Paying attention to and tapping into your creative intuition,
your inner voice resource — is setting your intention on what
you want, and goes like this…

Create a quiet environment, free from distractions and begin
to think about what you want.  Focus on and set your intention
on what you want help with, what you want to create in your
life.

Keep your breathing open and let your body relax as you think
about your intention.  Do this as long as you feel comfortable,
and continue to do this exercise whenever you want.

The length of time and frequency is your choice.

Do not force nor expect anything right away.  Just become
aware of the changes in your life.

So put your creative intuitive intention out there and see your
desires and goals arrive when they are suppose to arrive.

This exercise works for many, experience it for yourself and
notice that creativity, intuition and you is about having the
ability to create; being creative.

By definition, creativity is…
…being imaginative rather than imitative.
…causing something new to happen.
…investing with and in a new form.
…making and bringing into existence something new.
…producing and bringing about by a new course of action
   and behavior.
…producing through imaginative skill.
…setting up new opportunities.
…thinking outside the box.

By changing the way you look at things — see yourself achieving
and maintaining your peak and effective creative performance
in your daily life

We look forward to encouraging and supporting you on your
creative and intuitive journey.

Opus V – Self-Esteem and Believing in Yourself : Always set the stage

February 26, 2008 by whatmakesyourheartsing

Do you trust yourself?

Is your self-esteem and believing in yourself all that you want it to be?

Is your self-esteem and believing in yourself your number one priority?

Your self-esteem and believing in yourself takes time; time to listen to
and learn from others and yourself. This process may cause you some
stressful moments.

To take your self-esteem and believing in yourself to the next level
you must choose to

…create a lasting impression.

…get out of your comfort zone.

…invest in yourself.

…make a difference.

…take your self seriously.

…use a proactive approach and ask “who is going to stop me?”

The secret to your self-esteem and believing in yourself is to be bold,
to be great, and to think big. Take what matters most to you and live
each day with culture, ideas and passion.

Remember to always set the stage.

[This addition posted on November 24, 2008]

Before you are able to set the stage to believe and trust yourself you
must learn to listen to your inner voice and live strong.

Here is how…

Appreciate life by choosing wisely, and choosing well. (Not choosing
is also a choice.)

Become aware of your strengths.

Believe in yourself, and stop sabotaging yourself.

Remember, life is full of opportunities.

We all have learned scripts to manage our emotions.

These learned scripts may need some adjustments to reflect who
you are and what you want so that you “take charge of your life.”

[This addition posted on July 28, 2009]

To “take charge of your life” you must be willing to let go of your
self-defeating behavior.

Are your emotions, what you are feeling making you sick?

Suppressing your emotions/feelings is not the answer since these
emotions/feelings tend to show themselves in your attitude and in
your behavior.

Allow yourself to be open to the possibility that emotions/feelings
are just your emotions/feelings.

They are not you.

Do not let yourself be directed and motivated by them.

Since emotions/feelings are irrational, you are able to take control
of your life by making a decision to accept your emotions/feelings,
not act on them and then let them go so they don’t defeat you.

This can be accomplished by being aware of what you are feeling
moment to moment and asking:

1. Am I willing to let this emotion/feeling go?

2. Can I let this emotion/feeling go?

3. When am I going to let this emotion/feeling go?

Opus IV – Building Relationships : Values and self-awareness

January 31, 2008 by whatmakesyourheartsing

At times, relationships can be difficult and trying.

Building and maintaining every business and personal
relationship takes awareness, commitment — and lots
of work.

For one thing, taking responsibility for your actions
in any relationship requires you to take ownership
of how you react to any situation in your relationship.

Never give your power to anyone else; and never ever
give up.

When you are aware of and know your values, your true
nature and your true purpose, you are able to transform
your relationships and the world.

Are you aware of and do you know what you believe,
what you value and what is true for you?

Do you act from that place at all times?

What are your definitions of a relationship?

Do you live up to your definitions?

[This addition posted on October 28, 2008]

Inspiring relationships are the consummate of all relationships
in that each member “get” each other and “look out” for each
other since each member in these relationships usually have
shared beliefs and values.

Inspiring relationships are powerful in that each member is able
to “let go” of their “ego” for the blending of their common goals.

Inspiring relationships’ decision making are based on respect
rather than desire or fear which adds to and lends to their
longevity and popularity.

Inspiring relationships reach for the essence of living life in
balance and in harmony with one another.

Inspiring relationships tend to live in the moment, in the now,
and leave a legacy of hope, love and respect.

Who would not want to live their life in and with inspiring
relationships?

At the end of the day, have you made “inspiring relationships”
in your business, personal and professional life?

[This addition posted on June 30, 2009]

Are your business, personal and professional relationships all
that you want them to be?

Do you make building relationships your number one priority?

Do you trust those with whom you are building relationships?

Building relationships can be stressful.

Truly trusting and proactive relationships take time. Time to
listen to and learn from each other.

Are you ready to take your relationships to the next level?

Yes, you can choose to…

…create a lasting relationship.
…get out of your comfort zone to get to the next
   level of your relationships.
…invest in yourself while building your business
   and personal relationships.
…make a difference in each others lives.
…take building relationships seriously.
…use a proactive approach.and ask lots questions.

At the end of the day, the secret is…

You must be bold to be great in building relationships.

Whether for business, personal or professional reasons relationship
and/or team building is a necessary major skill required to achieve
one’s dream/goal, what ever the dream/goal is.

Here a few keys and guidelines to remember and use…

Look at the building process; not the content.

Relationship/team member participation is important.

Relationship/team member satisfaction is critical.

Capitalize on your differences.

Identify your goals.

Identify the relationship/team goals.

Identify and discuss the issues that block your relationship/team
building efforts.

Look at your conflict and empowerment issues.

Identify the conflict issues.

Identify the empowerment issues.

Build rapport by mirroring each other.

Understand audio, visual, and kinesthetic communication
styles. Identify your communication style preference:
Audio_____Visual_____Kinesthetic_____

Recognize behavioral cues that signal various communication styles.
(This is one of keys to better and more effective communications)

Opus III – Your Marketing and Sales Approach : A proactive approach

December 4, 2007 by whatmakesyourheartsing

How many times have you heard “your business is only as good as your last sale?”

Does this statement get you thinking about your marketing and sales approach; and the value of your promotional techniques?

Do you think about…

… anticipating the needs of your customers, your clients?

… being an expert at listening to your customers, your clients?

… focusing on new business by reminding people on what a great business
   you have?

… how many new big ideas you have each day?

… what makes for a thriving business?

… what strategies you use to gain your customers, your clients?

… what your core strengths are? (You must know them to focus on and use
   them.)

A proactive approach to your marketing and sales has promotional value and is all about going beyond what you know your realm of possibilities are.

Remember, your satisfied customers and clients do come back.

Realize the power of eMail marketing by targeting to the interests, needs, and wants of your customer and client base.

Knowing what is important to your customers and your clients motivates them to take action.

Anticipate your customers and your clients’ needs, and deliver more than expected.

Focus on being proactive, making a difference and trust in your marketing and sales approach.

Did you know that being proactive makes your marketing and sales projects go faster with less stress?

To complete your projects faster with less stress, plan and think through each project by visualizing the sequence of events required to achieve your goal in the fewest number of steps possible and include only those steps that are more effective and productive.

Be sure you remember to consider the consequences of your steps by asking yourself this question…

Can I live with the consequences of these steps?

You may be able to remove any stress-filled obstacle to your progress in achieving your goals before they happen when you know what consequences you are willing to accept.

This is being proactive.

Opus II – Take Your Emotions Seriously : Your emotions determine your behavior

November 6, 2007 by whatmakesyourheartsing

Did you know that when you stay in the “present” you are, and feel, much calmer?

Your body and your mind are in balance and there is less tension within you, and around you.

To get to this state of mind and body you must let go of your future and past thoughts.

This is not to say that you do no planning for the future or learn from your past, it just means when you catch yourself feeling tense, focus on the moment and begin feeling the difference.

The goal is to stay “present” when you begin to lose your focus and your creativity.

When you are in the “present” you are in control of yourself which leads to wellness. Multi-tasking, doing many things at once does not.

After all, there is more to a day than you realize, the choice is yours.

[This addition posted on August 14, 2008]

According to Eckhart Tolle, most people treat the present moment as if it is an obstacle that they need to overcome. Since the present moment is Life itself, this is an insane way to live.

Staying present in the moment helps you be aware; and helps you accept your intuition, your emotions, feelings and thoughts. With awareness and acceptance of your intuition, emotions, feelings and thoughts you are able to manage and overcome your stress reactions; and makes your heart sing.

The value you attribute to certain emotions has an effect on your behavior and your perception ideas, people places and things. There is a tendency to miss out on something of value because of your perception of the value you attribute to your emotions,

All emotions need to be released. When emotions are not accepted and expressed verbally they have a tendency to be released physically as sleeplessness, headaches, backaches, stomach disorders, fatigue, irritability, boredom and mood-swings.

Emotions when not accepted also tend to be released as abusive behaviors such as hitting, punching, name calling etc.

To express an emotion means that you tell the individual what he/she has done (or not done) makes you feel.

Statements such as “When you_________, I feel_________ is made not to manipulate the person to do things your way rather it is made for you to release your feelings and your emotions.

All emotions are OK.

It is what you do with them that counts.

How are letting go of your emotions and your feelings without talking about them?

How do you let go of your emotions and your feelings?

Letting go of your emotions and your feelings changes your behavior.

[This addition posted on April 23, 2009]

And, changes in your behavior may cause feelings of being overwhelmed with your life.

Here are ways to take your emotions seriously without feeling overwhelmed.

Be mindful of how you manage and use your emotions.

When your emotions are managed and used mindfully you are able to lead a more productive life.

Since a life with greater effectiveness and productivity needs energy, when emotions are used mindfully and managed effectively, you are able to use and release your energy to extend your personal limits, and accept change as an opportunity.

Accept change as an opportunity, and discover the benefits of the stress of taking your emotions seriously can become the driving force that helps you reach your goals.

Remember, avoiding stress is not necessarily healthier than seeking it out. The time to be concerned about your stress level is when you feel that your effectiveness or your health is at risk.

To avoid risking your effectiveness and your health, find your optimum level of stress, where there is just enough to avoid complacency, and not too much to cause burnout, headaches, stomach upsets, personality changes, restlessness, sleeplessness, fatigue, weight loss or gain.

Opus I – Getting A Handle On Your Stress : Take control of your life

October 6, 2007 by whatmakesyourheartsing

Being stress-free is not an option to living your life because you need stress to live and be creative in giving and receiving what you are here to give and receive.

Yes…

You have a purpose, a reason for being here.

Do you know yours?

Do not wait another day to find your purpose because without knowing your purpose, your life may appear to be be meaningless and without the passion needed to live each precious moment.

Business and personal stress must not be avoided because you need stress to be creative and feel alive.  It is when stress becomes distress (negative stress) or eustress (positive stress) you must learn to manage and overcome your stress reactions.

Stress reactions are your body signals that tell you what you must change doing, eating, feeling, thinking etc. if you want to change the signals your body is sending.

Managing and overcoming distress and eustress involves being aware, acknowledging and accepting what your body is telling you because if you ignore the signals you face discomfort, disease, illness or worse.

[This addition posted on July 15, 2008]

Did you know that your stress, distress, and eustress is your choice?

That’s right – you choose the cause of your stress, distress and eustress by the choices you make with the following stressors:

Breathing, Environment, Attitude, and Nutrition. [B E A N]

Your Breathing…

Check your breathing to see when it is jammed, natural, reversed or shallow.

Holding your breath until after you have completed an activity (talking, walking, etc.) creates a physical response, a stress reaction.

What is your physical response, your stress reaction?

For natural normal breathing, your chest and belly expands when you breathe in and deflates when you breathe out.

[Caution: Go slow. Attempting to fix your breathing style by taking in more oxygen than your body knows may cause hyperventilation. If this occurs, cup your hands lightly over your mouth (rather than look for a paper bag) and breathe in and out slowly. You can do this while sitting or standing, preferably sitting.]

Are you able to follow your breath as it moves through your body?

Your Environment…

Living, shopping, and working in sick-buildings and under fluorescent lights create stress reactions.

What allergens do you live with every day?

Your Attitude…

Blaming others for your situation makes you the victim and this creates stress reactions.

Thinking positively rather than negatively, and using questions that begin with what and how rather than who, when, and why helps you take control of your life. When you feel like crying, cry. Crying is one way your body releases your stress reactions.

Your Nutrition…

Drinking caffeine creates stress reactions.

Eating three meals and two snacks a day works wonders.

Eating white products — sugar, white flour, white rice — creates stress reactions.

Fresh fruit and vegetables help reduce your stress reactions.

What about nitrates and preservatives? Are they in the foods you eat?

Bottom line: There are no “stress management pills” that help you take control of your life, so go ahead and share your feelings, don’t act on them. Instead, discover that your stress matters and how to live with less of your stress reactions.

Yes, you are able to live with less stress reactions each and every day; the choice is yours. Discover your choices; do it now.

Your body is telling you what choices to make.

[This addition posted on March 26, 2009]

Stress is your body’s biochemical reaction to how you live your life. Stress can develop into distress (or eustress) and disease, through your personal adaptation to internal and external environments. When your energy production is higher than your body can discharge, distress (or eustress) occurs. This can result in feelings such as loss of control, being overwhelmed, stuck and/or agitated. Each person reacts differently to the different stressors (causes). It is important for you to know what causes your distress (or eustress) and recognize the stress indicators (symptoms) and the signal they give.

Some signs and symptoms of stress (distress or eustress) are tension and physical illness; low energy and fatigue; irritability; insomnia; headaches; and backaches. According to Hans Selye, M.D. “Stress is not something to be avoided.” It is a “response of the body to any demand made upon it.”

Since stress is a body response, we only know that we are stressed, or more correctly in distress (or eustress), when our body tells us, that is, when we feel symptoms known as stress indicators. It appears that stress is good. It is when you feel distress (or eustress) that you need to take another look at your lifestyle, and the choices and decisions you are making.
